Vote for Nicole Hemmer's bid to become Miss World Canada. She's from McMaster!

The Miss World Canada pageant began in 1951 as a special prelude to the Festival of Britain, and today, Miss World is one of the most recognized brand names on the planet. From Astrid to Agbani, from Antigone to Azra, from Aneta to Aishwarya, Miss World is a major figure during her yearlong reign, receiving international travel, incalculable exposure, and the joyous opportunity to work with “Beauty with a Purpose”.(http://www.missworldcanada.com/history.htm)

Nicole Hemmer who is a contestant n the pageant just graduated high school being an honor roll student with 4 of her 7 marks having an average of 96%. She is in her first year at McMaster University studying for her Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology. (http://www.missworldcanada.com/contestants/2008/official/nicole_h/index.htm)

Parts of these pageants can be seen as a type of non verbal communication. While there is a lot of discussion and question and answer parts to each pageant I want to focus mainly on the aspect of stage presence. When a contestant is walking down the runway she is presenting her self to the judges and audience, she is trying to sell herself in a sense. This is a type of non verbal communication which involves Nonverbal communication exists: behavior that has communicative value, communication that is primarily relational and nonverbal communication is culture-bound. It also relys on body language ( position and gesture),physical attractiveness and clothing. All of these influences can be seen in the clip below which demonstrates clearly the need for non verbal communication.
