2007: The Year In Photos comment

2007: The Year In Photos can be used to demonstrate Innis' theory of a Space Binding Society. The magazine photos are a prime example of someting materialistic and impersonal valued by our society. They convey messages and stories in the form of printed media. Each photo describes/depicts a moment in time whether it be a movie scene, a presidential candidate or an artist and his work. Marshal McLuhan's theory of the Four Laws of the Medium can also be applied to the article both in the original magazine and on the internet. The Internet :
1) Enhances communication and knowlege of news and current events.
2) The radio and televison are pushed aside.
3) Retrieval of instant access as in small towns/villages.
4)Reverses into false knowledge and disimbodied intelligence

The reverse effect of the internet and all new media forms are wildley critisized, Dr. Brian Martin in: "Beyond Mass Media, Chapter 2 of Information Liberation" says " 'News' often is more like entertainment than information or education.( Alder B. Ronald, Rodman George and Sevigny Alexander. Understanding Human Communication. Ontario:Oxford University Press,2008) News reports, especially on television, are typically given without much overt context. The latest events are described, but there is no explanation of what led up to them or caused them."
